Fortis Architecture PLLC was formed in 2013 with the partnership of Russell J. McLoughlin, RA and Darryl G. Hall, RA. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina the firm has the philosophy that we focus on the needs of the client providing our expertise for a variety of project types and always willing to tackle something new utilizing our skills as Architects and the resources available to us from our team of engineers to contacts in the various aspects of our profession. The most important aspect of our work is our client and working to meet their needs.

Darryl G. Hall
Darryl G. Hall, RA, NCARB attended Auburn University where he obtained his Bachelor of Architecture Degree. Mr. Hall began work with Cuhaci & Peterson Architects, Engineers & Planners in Orlando, Florida in the fall of 1984. In 1987 the firm moved Darryl G. Hall to Charlotte, North Carolina to provide services for their grocery store and drug store corporate clients. During this initial time Mr. Hall completed his NCARB intern program and became registered in Florida, the state he passed the exam, and in North Carolina. Services were provided for new and renovation retail and industrial projects.
In 1994, Mr. Hall went to Little Diversified Architectural Consulting in Charlotte, North Carolina working on Harris Teeter grocery stores and then in the retail group doing new retail centers and renovations of existing centers. In 2002, Mr. Hall went to Laughing Dog Studio PLLC, a smaller firm working on retail, office, public, residential and industrial projects, new and renovations. With a partnership change the firm became Happy Box Architecture PLLC providing architectural services for the same project types
Russell J. McLoughlin
Russell J. McLoughlin, RA-AZ, LEED AP has brought a diverse variety projects to the partnership, working in various firms, honing his Architectural skill for the past twenty six years. Through those years having successfully completed projects types in Residential, Ecclesiastical, Office, Medical Office, Retail, Food Service (Restaurants, Bars, and Grocery Stores), Industrial, and Distribution.
Although through his teen years Mr. McLoughlin was employed in Construction and Landscaping. Learning from the two to prepare him for a career in Architecture. Working hands-on in Construction learning the trades of Framing, Custom Millwork, Custom Decks/Gazebo’s, Roofing, Siding, Plumbing, and Electrical. While in Landscaping learning Site Layout, Drainage, Common Nursery Plants, while managing a 65 acre Garden Center/Nursery in Upstate New York.
Mr. McLoughlin attended the Associates in Applied Sciences Architectural Program at Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY. While ending College 1994 he was approached by his production drawing professor to apprentice in his office. He Started his career working directly for Ottaviano Associates in Syracuse, NY. Learning the artistic method of hand drawing educational renovations, a fire house, and an ecclesiastical project. After work began to get slow with Ottaviano Associates, he took apprenticeship position at Dal Pos Architect in Syracuse, NY where he helped standardized the office AutoCAD team, and worked on large covered mall, and various retail projects.
In 1996 Mr. McLoughlin moved to North Carolina where he worked for Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, Christopher Phelps & Associates, The RBA Group, R4 Architecture and Overcash Demmitt Architects. Diversifying his knowledge by learning something new that each firm had to offer. Mr. McLoughlin is a Registered Architect in Arizona, and is a LEED Accredited Professional (AP).
